The world famous Ryder Cup Golf Trophy, that is now contested every two years between the USA and Europe, was donated by Samuel Ryder a wealthy seed merchant and early supporter of professional golf. Sam's business was based in St. Albans and his home club was Verulam where he was also Captain for several years.

This challenging course, designed by James Braid, in the heart of St. Albans is overlooked by the majestic St. Albans Abbey. Verulam is a traditional private members Club, but with a modern outlook, that offers a variety of clubhouse facilities as well as its superb golf course.
