Junior Golf this Winter
Juniors are able to play any time after 11am on weekends and bank holidays between October and March.
There are no Junior competitions over the winter however Juniors with appropriate handicaps are able to play in Men’s, Ladies, Club and Mixed competitions all year round. Cards must be signed by an adult member who is not related to the Junior.
- Boys with handicaps of 28 or less can also enter Men’s competitions (maximum handicap allowance 21).
- Girls with handicaps of 36 or less can also enter Ladies competitions.
- Juniors with above handicaps can also enter all Club and Mixed competitions.
Cameron Taylor wins at HGU Boys Intermediate Championship
Cameron Taylor continued his excellent recent run of form at the Herts Golf Union Boys Intermediate Championship on Thursday 29th October.
On a day of exceptionally low scoring Cameron’s nett 62 (7 under par) won the Under 14s handicap prize at Mid-Herts Golf Club.
Verulam Junior Open 2009
68 juniors competed in this year’s Verulam Junior Open on Tuesday 27th October. Weather conditions were perfect however the course proved challenging with very few low scores. The worthy winners were:

1st Daniel Ellis-Banbury [Letchworth] 72
2nd Nick Ward [Redbourn] 74 (better last 9)
3rd Evan Omelia [West Herts] 74
Under-18 Handicap
1st Adam Thomas [Sandy Lodge] 74 - 10 = 64
2nd Ronan Lennon [Redbourn] 96 - 27 = 69
3rd Jamie Woor [Redbourn] 80 - 10 = 70 (better last 6)
Under-14 Handicap
1st Alex Williams [West Herts] 81 - 13 = 68
2nd Luke Hynes [Mill Hill] 97 - 28 = 69 (better last 9)
3rd Jack Mudd [Stevenage] 78 - 9 = 69 (better last hole)
Best placed Verulam juniors were:
- David Dobinson 5th equal in the scratch (77)
- Cameron Taylor and Ed Morgan 8th equal in the under-14 handicap (nett 71)

Eclectic Competitions
There are two trophies awarded for performance in junior competitions throughout the year:
Aslett Trophy 2009
Awarded to the Junior with the lowest eclectic score in the trophy competitions (medal rounds).

Day Trophy 2009
Awarded to the Junior with the highest eclectic points score in the stableford competitions.

East Herts Junior League
Junior teams from eleven Hertfordshire golf clubs compete in the East Herts League. Each team plays five home and five away matches annually comprising four fourball betterball matchplay games. Two bonus points are awarded for each match.
The 2010 season will conclude with Finals Day at Porters Park Golf Club when all eleven teams play a separate team handicap and scratch stableford competition.

The Ver League
Junior teams from 13 Hertfordshire golf clubs compete with 3 golf clubs from just over the Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire borders in the Ver League.
The competition takes it name from the river Ver which runs through Verulam Golf Club, founders of the league.
Winners of this annual team knock-out competition are awarded the Ver Shield. Each round comprises of seven singles matchplay games played home and away.
First round losers progress to the consolation competition for the Ver Plate.
